Moonstruck women. Historical artwork of women driven temporarily mad by the full Moon. The Moon was believed to be linked to human emotions and full Moons were thought to be capable of causing hallucinations and madness, hence the term lunatic (from the Latin luna for Moon). Some men are searching for their wives at lower left. This 17th century artwork is of Dutch women.
