Primate brains. Historical artwork showing the size of the brain in three primates. The diagrams at left show the area (shaded) of the skull filled by the brain in each animal. The lemur (family Lemuridae, bottom) has the smallest brain and the human (Homo sapiens, top) has the largest. The brain of the chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes, middle) lies between the two. More detailed diagrams of each brain are seen at right.
