Photograph of the human left scapula, the shoulder blade, viewed in anterior aspect. A pair of scapulae form the rear part of the shoulder girdle, supporting the left and right arms. The bony process at top right is the acromion, an extension of a spine running along the dorsal surface: the acromion articulates with the clavicle, the collar bone. The acromion overhangs the glenoid fossa, into which the bone of the upper left arm (the humerus) fits to form the socket of the shoulder joint.
