False-colour xerograph (x-ray) of the human shoulder joint, in front view. The humerus, the bone of the upper arm is at left; the humeral head articulates with the glenoid cavity of the scapula (shoulder blade) in a ball and socket joint. The joint is strengthened by the collar bone (clavicle visible. Xerography is an x-ray technique that produces good contrasting images using a selenium-covered aluminium plate instead of photographic film to record transmitted x-rays.
