Artwork featuring bones of the human shoulder joint (right side). The necessary strength of the shoulder joint is provided by the shoulder blade & collar bone. The rear of the joint is supported from the triangular-shaped scapula (the shoulder blade - at right), and the clavicle (collar-bone, top). The slender, curved clavicle articulates laterally with the scapula. The humerus, the bone of the upper arm, articulates with the glenoid cavity in a ball & socket type joint.
