Artwork featuring bones of the human female pelvis, showing a frontal view of the right side. The bony pelvis forms a rigid structure that protects the organs of the lower abdomen and provides attachments for the bones and muscles of the lower limbs. The head of the femur (the upper bone of the leg) articulates with the innominate bone of the pelvis in a ball & socket type joint. The pelvis is divided into two halves, which are joined at the rear by the sacrum & in the front at the symphysis pubis.
