Human arm beside its skelton for comparison. There are 29 bones in the lower arm and hand. The radius (lower centre) is the larger arm bone with the smaller ulna below it. The wrist joint articulates the radius with the 8 carpal bones that make up the wrist bones of the hand. The 5 metacarpal bones articulate with the 14 phalanges (finger bones). Each finger has 3 phalanges, except the thumb which has 2. The hand muscles allow the precise movement associated with the hand for speclialised tasks.
