Caption

Normal spine and pelvis. X-ray of healthy human lumbar spine (lower back). Skeletal features include the 12th thoracic vertebra (at top) with the 12th rib (upper left), below it are the five lumbar vertebrae (L1 at top, L5 at bottom). At lower centre, below L5 is the top of the sacrum. Either side of the Sacrum (lower left and right) are the pelvic bones (ilium) which are cup shaped. The spinal processes (outward projections on the vertebrae) are clearly visible and appear as long oval features. The tranverse processes may be seen either side of L1 and appear as faint projections to the left and right. The abdomen contains the liver, stomach and intestine. James did not know whether this was taken from the front or the back and also whether this was male or female.
