Caption

Neck and skull. Coloured X-ray of a normal human neck (lower centre) and part of the skull (upper centre). The neck joins the head to the body. The bones of the neck (cervical vertebrae) are part of the spine. The vertebrae surround and protect the spinal cord that connects the brain to the rest of the body's nervous system. Muscles (not seen) in the neck help to stabilise the cervical spine and support the weight of the head. The shoulder bones are seen across bottom.
