The skull is the bony skeleton of the head that protects the brain, eyes and ears and provides attachment for the muscles of the face and mouth. It is made up of 22 different bones. Pale pink (upper centre) is the frontal (forehead) bone. The orbits (red, round) are cavities formed by several bones to contain and protect the eyeball. Between and below the orbits is the nasal cavity (dark pink). The jaw bones (white) contain the teeth and consist of the maxilla (upper jaw) and the mandible (lower jaw).
