Caption

Female musculature. Computer artwork of the female musculature based on Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci's (1452-1519) Vitruvian man. These are the skeletal muscles, which are under the conscious control of the brain. Muscles are joined to bones by tendons. When a muscle contracts or relaxes it pulls on a tendon, producing movement in the skeleton. Skeletal muscles account for around 45% of body weight.
