Muscle cell. Confocal light micrograph of a muscle cell (dark object) surrounded by a green fluorescent solution. The image shows that the solution has been taken up by vacuoles (membrane-bound spaces) within the cell. A confocal microscope detects light only from the focal point of its objective lens. By moving the focal point, images of thin sections of an intact specimen can be obtained. Magnification unknown.
