Smooth muscle cells, fluorescence deconvolution micrograph. Fluorescent dyes have been used to highlight tissues, cellular structures and proteins: actin (green), cell nuclei (blue), microvasculature (red). Actin is one of the main contractile muscle proteins. Smooth muscle is not under conscious control, and is found in places such as blood vessels, the respiratory and digestive tracts, and the bladder. Microvasculature consists of small blood vessels.
