Human circulatory system. Artwork of the human circulatory system. Blood is pumped away from the heart (centre) in arteries, and returns to the heart in veins. Here, the blood vessels carrying oxygenated blood are red, and the blood vessels carrying deoxygenated blood are blue. The blood is reoxygenated in the lungs. Major blood vessels supply the arms, legs, kidneys, and head. The major blood vessels in the trunk are the aorta (an artery) and the vena cava (a vein). Here, most of the veins are blue, and most of the arteries are red, except the pulmonary blood vessels.
