Caption

Arteries in knee. Coloured X-ray angiogram of arteries (pink) around the human knee. The knee joint is at the top. The bottom of the femur, or thigh bone, forms the top of the joint. Under this is the tibia, or shin bone. Angiograms are made by injecting the patient's bloodstream with an X-ray- opaque substance before taking an X-ray. The technique is used to look for abnormalities in blood vessels, such as clots or narrowings.
