Caption

Abdominal aortic artery. Coloured angiogram of the abdominal aortic artery, the blood supply for the kidney, spleen, liver and legs. The aorta is seen running from top to bottom (red) and is seen dividing at bottom into the common iliac arteries which supply the legs. The arteries seen branching off towards the top of the image are the renal (to the kidneys), the splenic (to the spleen) and the hepatic (to the liver) arteries. Angiography is the X-ray examination of a blood vessel that has been outlined by prior injection of a contrast medium (a substance opaque to X- rays).
