Pulmonary artery. Endoscope view of the interior of the pulmonary artery. The artery is seen to divide (bifurcate) many times. Arteries are lined internally by a single layer of endothelial cells, arranged longitudinally to the axis of the vessel. The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs to obtain more oxygen.
