Carotid arteries. Coloured angiogram (X-ray) of the blood vessels of the neck. The skull is at top, with the front of the head at left. The spine runs down centre. At bottom right is the common carotid artery, which supplies blood to the head. At centre it divides into the internal and external carotid arteries. Angiography uses the injection of a contrast medium, via catheters (green), to show blood vessels on an X-ray.
