Normal heart trace. View of an electrocardiograph (ECG) readout, showing a normal heartbeat leading to a flat line. This green heart trace is recorded on a television monitor. Normal heartbeat is seen at left as a series of small and larger waves. These waves correspond to the electrical activity of the heart muscle during pumping, first during atrial contraction & then ventricular contraction. An ECG is an important means of diagnosing diseases of the heart, such as coronary artery disease, pericarditis, coronary thrombosis and arrhythmias.
