Human heart. Artwork of a healthy human heart, seen in external view. The main blood vessels servicing the heart are visible at top of image. At upper left (blue) is the vena cava, where blood arrives from the body. Blood is pumped through the right side of the heart (at left of image) to the lungs and back to the heart through the pulmonary system of blood vessels. Oxygenated blood is then pumped by the left side of the heart (at right of image) to the rest of the body, through the main artery, the aorta (the blood vessel at top right of heart). The heart is supplied with fresh blood through the coronary arteries (black) seen on the surface of the heart.
