Human heart. Illustration of an outline of a human torso showing a healthy heart. The heart (green) is a hollow muscle that pumps blood around the circulatory system. The two vena cava veins (red, at upper and lower left of heart) carry deoxygenated blood from the body into the heart. This blood is pumped from the heart to the lungs through the pulmonary artery (red, at upper right of heart). Once oxygenated blood has returned from the lungs, it is carried to the rest of the body by the aorta (blue, at upper centre of heart). The heart muscle is supplied with fresh blood by the smaller coronary arteries seen on the surface of the heart.
