Heart. Artwork of a healthy human heart and its blood vessels, revealed by dissection. The heart pumps blood through three circulatory systems. The heart's surface carries the arteries (red) and veins (blue) of the coronary (heart) circulation that run along sulci (grooves) in the surface that contain fatty tissue (yellow). The pulmonary (lung) circulatory system takes blood to the lungs (for oxygenation) through the pulmonary arteries (pink, upper right) and back from the lungs in the pulmonary veins (red, at right of the pulmonary arteries). The aorta (red, upper centre) and vena cava (blue, left of aorta) carry blood to and from the body respectively in the systemic circulation.
