Heart strings. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the heart's chordae tendineae. These are delicate thread-like bands of fibrous tissue that attach the papillary muscles on the internal heart wall to the heart valves, allowing the papillary muscles to control the valve flaps. The valves help control the flow of blood between the chambers of the heart. Magnification unknown.
