Beating heart cells, fluorescence deconvolution micrograph. A fluorescent dye, fluo-3, has been used to highlight calcium levels, from zero (black), to high levels (white). Muscle cell contraction is triggered by rising calcium levels. These heart cells (myocytes) are neonatal ones (from a newborn baby).
