False colour scanning electron micrograph of a human T- lymphocyte (a type of white blood cell), showing the characteristic long, surface, microvilli, which cover a normal cell. Following infection with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), the causative agent of AIDS, the surface projections of these cells are replaced by small, rounded, protrusions. Magnificaton: x156 at 35mm size. Yellow tint.
