Photograph of the right hemisphere of the human brain (medial view). The brainstem consists of the pons, medulla oblongata & the spinal cord. To the right of the brainstem is the cerebellum (leaflike), which controls, but does not initiate, muscular activity & balance. The pituitary gland is to the left of the brainstem. The highly folded area of the brain is divided into four parts; from bottom right, the occipital lobe, the parietal lobe, the cerebrum (top folds) & the frontal lobe (fold under the cerebrum).
