Head scan. Coloured Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan of a male human head containing a healthy brain (side view). The face is seen in profile. Tissues of the mouth and nasal cavity are visible. The convoluted cerebrum of the brain is at top (yellow). Intelligent thought processes, memory and conscious movement are processed in the cerebrum. At ear level the cerebellum (trian- gular area, red and yellow) is seen. The cerebellum controls body posture, balance and coordination of movement. MRI scanning uses radio waves and a magnetic field to produce images of cross-sectional "slices" through the body.
