False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a multipolar neuron cell body (central mass) from the human cerebral cortex, the outer grey matter of the brain. The triangular cell body possesses a number of dendrites and three distinct processes called axons. Multipolar neurones typically possess a single axon that conducts impulses away from the cell body, and several branched dendrites, which receive stimuli from neighbouring cells.
