Purkinje nerve cells. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of two Purkinje nerve cells from the cerebellum of the brain. The cells comprise a flask-shaped cell body, from which branch numerous thread-like dendrites. Purkinje cells form the junction between the granular and molecular layers of the grey matter of the cerebellum. Nerve impulses are relayed to the cells through their dendrites. The cerebellum controls balance, posture and muscle coordination. Magnification: x3200 at 7.5x10 inch size.
