Contact lens fitting. Woman plac- ing a contact lens from her fingertip onto her eye. Contact lenses are worn directly on the eye to correct imperfect vision. They alter the focus- ing of light through the front part of the eye, the cornea, compensating for eye defects. Contact lenses can be soft or hard (gas permeable). Non-disposable lenses must be rinsed and stored in cleaning solutions to prevent eye infection.
