Contracted pupil. Man with a contracted (shrunken) pupil. This effect, called miosis, is a normal response to bright lighting. The smaller aperture prevents too much light from entering the eye, improving depth of focus but reducing sensitivity. It also occurs in response to the use of narcotics, such as heroin. For the same eye with a dilated pupil, see P420/538.
