Caption

Normal retina. Ophthalmoscope view of the retina of a healthy human eye, showing the distribution of retinal veins and arteries. At upper right is the optic disc (yellow) where blood vessels (red) emerge, and the point at which the optic nerve leaves the eyeball. The optic disc is the blind spot of the eye. At left can be seen the dark region of the macula, an area free of large blood vessels where the fovea (area of highest visual acuity) is found. The retinal background (orange) consists of photosensitive cells (rods and cones) which translate light images which fall on it into nerve impulses.
