Intestinal lining. Endoscope view of the internal surface of a normal healthy ileum, the last part of the small intestine. This surface secretes the digestive fluids and absorbs nutrients from digested food. It is heavily folded, forming small projections called villi (some seen running bottom centre to upper right). These folds increase the surface area available for absorption.
