Intestinal microvilli. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the surface of microvilli from the small intestine. Microvilli are tiny finger- like projections on the inside of the intestines. They serve to increase the surface area for the absorption of nutrients. Magnification: x260 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
