Fluorescent dyes have been used to highlight tissues and cellular structures and proteins: outer longitudinal muscle (yellow), smooth muscle (green), axons (red), cell nuclei (blue). This is the muscularis externa in the small intestine, and the axons here are part of a grouping of nerves known as Auerbach's plexus.
