Small intestine blood vessels. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of blood vessels in the small intestine. The largest blood vessels are veins, while the slightly thinner vessels are arteries. These bring blood to and from the smallest blood vessels (capillaries), which infiltrate the walls of the intestine. This image was created using a resin cast, where resin was injected into the blood vessels and then the surrounding tissues were chemically digested, leaving this structure behind.
