Liver cell. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through a liver cell, or hepatocyte. The large, round nucleus (yellow) contains chromatin (red), a condensed form of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) genetic material. Mitochondria (blue) are sites of energy production within the cytoplasm (pink). Groups of hepatocytes form hexagonal units called lobules. Magnification: x1500 at 35mm size.
