Islet of Langerhans cells. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a slice through cells of the hormone-secreting Islet of Langerhans in a human pancreas. Granules (dark dots) secrete hormones, mainly insulin and glucagon, into the blood. These hormones control blood-sugar levels. The orange areas are the cell nuclei. Magnification: x30,000 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
