Kidney glomerulus, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The cells that usually surround the glomerulus have been removed to reveal the coiled capillary at the core of the glomerulus and its blood supply. The function of the glomeruli is to filter waste products from the blood. After the reabsorption of certain substances elsewhere in the kidney, the liquid is transported to the bladder as urine.
