Bladder. Gross specimen of a healthy human bladder. The bladder is a hollow muscular organ located behind the pelvic bone. It can hold around half a litre of urine, which drains into the bladder down the two ureters (top left and top right) from the kidneys (not seen). At the base of the bladder is a muscular neck containing a sphincter (ring of muscle) that controls outflow of urine into the urethra. This specimen is from a man.
