Caption

Urinary system. Coloured X-ray of the abdomen with the urinary tract revealed by the injection of a contrast medium (urography). The surrounding bones are also seen. The two kidneys are partially seen at upper left and upper right. They are located on each side of the spine (running down centre). From each kidney, a ureter (two tubes running downwards on each side of the spine) drains urine down to the pelvic area (bones seen, lower frame), where it is stored in the bladder (blue, bottom centre). The urine is removed from the body by urination through the urethra (not seen). Urine is produced by the kidneys to excrete waste products like urea that are filtered from the blood by the kidneys.
