X-ray from a double contrast barium enema. This exam is performed by using a rectal tube to coat the walls of the large intestine with barium, and the instilling air to distend the lumen. Doctors can then look for a variety of abnormalities, such as colonic mass, colonic polyps, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulosis.
