Lung cells. Light micrograph of a section through the wall of a bronchus in the lungs. This is the upper layer of cells (the epithelium). The cell nuclei (round, dark) are across bottom. Numerous cilia cover the outer surface of the cells (across top). These hair-like structures move rhythmically to move bacteria and other particles away from the gas-exchanging parts of the lung to the throat for removal from the body.
