Caption

Lungs. Computer artwork of a glass-effect human female body showing the location of the lungs (red) in the thoracic cavity. The lungs are the site of gaseous exchange between the air and the blood. Air is inhaled into the lungs through the trachea (windpipe) and bronchi. In the alveoli (airsacs) of the lungs, oxygen diffuses into the blood and carbon dioxide diffuses out to be exhaled. The lungs are protected by the bones of the ribcage.
