Caption

Testis. Computer illustration of a section through a single human testis, one of a pair of male sex organs. The testis is the site of sperm production (spermatogenesis). Androgen, the male sex hormone, is also produced here. The bulk of the testis (at centre right) consists of seminiferous tubules, the site of sperm formation. These tubules (white) are arranged in testicular lobes that radiate from a central plexus (at upper centre). Sperm then pass to the epididymis (at left) consisting of a single convoluted tube, where the sperm matures and is stored.
