Maturing sperm. Coloured freeze-fracture scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of healthy spermatozoa (sperm, white) in the epididymis. This is a 7- metre-long coiled tube that lies behind the testis, where the sperm are produced. The sperm mature as they pass slowly along the epididymis, until they are ready to be ejaculated.
