Endoscope image of the uterus, the part of the female reproductive tract that is specialized to allow an embryo to become implanted in its inner wall & to subsequently nourish the growing foetus from the maternal blood circulation. The non- pregnant uterus is a pear-shaped organ, about 7.5 cm long, which is suspended in the pelvic cavity by means of peritoneal folds (ligaments) & fibrous bands. The upper part is connected to the 2 fallopian tubes (which connect with the ovaries) and the lower part joins the vagina at the cervix (the neck of the womb).
