Female reproductive system. Artwork of the female reproductive system superimposed on a woman's body. The reproductive organs (lower centre) are connected to the exterior by the vagina (rod- shaped, green), the muscular birth canal. The vag- ina leads through a narrow opening (the cervix) into the uterine cavity (triangular, green). This is surrounded by the uterus (yellow). Fertilised eggs implant themselves in the uterine lining during pregnancy. Eggs are produced by the ovaries (purple) and travel along the Fallopian tubes (green lines) to the uterus. The breast (upper right) contains glands that produce milk which is carried by a network of ducts to the nipple.
