Female pituitary hormones. Artwork showing the effects of hormones secreted by the pituitary gland on the female reproductive system. The pituitary gland in the brain (red, upper left) releases several hormones which act on the female reproductive system, including luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). These act to promote ovulation in the ovaries (lower right). The ovaries then release hormones which promote physical changes in the breasts (centre left), the uterus (lower centre) and the cervix (bottom centre). These changes prepare the woman's body for potential childbearing.
