Anatomy of a breast. Artwork of a cross-section through a human breast showing the internal structures. The breast is supported by the pectoral muscles (pink, upper right) of the chest. Several lobules (purple, upper centre) or subdivisions of the mammary gland are seen. These lobules are formed from clusters of mammary acini (one seen at lower centre). The acini are lined with cells which secrete milk to feed a newborn baby or infant. Ducts channel the milk from the lobules to the nipple (pink, centre left). The mammary fat (yellow) is also seen.
